So, i think its time to resurrect this blog. A number of interesting and exiting things have happened to me in my life since i had my last meet. After going to the South Central Regionals with Red Stick Crossfit, i have that competitive itch again. I have decided to cut down to 180-185# from 203# and compete again in Powerlifting. I want to compete in the 185# weight class and total more than i did at my previous meet at 198#, which was a 425# Squat, a 245# bench, and a 485# deadlift, for a total of 1125#. After thats done, i'd like to get back into Crossfit and compete with a team.
Now that that's out the way, the interesting stuff that's happened. I have moved to live in Manhattan, i'm interning with Columbia University Strength and Conditioning and i've got 2 other job prospects in the city. This is pretty big for me considering i've lived in Louisiana all my life. It's a great opportunity at a Division 1 university in an even better city. I couldnt be more happy, excited, nervous, and every other emotion you could possibly feel again. For the first time in a long time, i feel like im alive again.
Now, as far as meet prep is concerned, i'll be doing 3 blocks of 2 months of programming. Two of the months are high volume at 10x10 with the same weight, the next 2 month block will be moderate at 10x5, and the last 3 months will be sort of a peak block going back to the same program i was on for the last meet. Hopefully the high volume will give me a greater cross sectional area to work with in addition to the work capacity, the medium volume will get me accustomed to moving a little heavier weights, and then by the time those 4 months are over, i should have fixed a lot of weaknesses and gotten a lot stronger. Also, the head coach at Columbia is a big powerlifter, so i'm hoping he can give me some help and advice as i take on the process for a 2nd time.
As far as NYC is concerned, i've been in the city since Saturday. The first day me and Brent walked around the city and just hung out. I got a pretty sweet wild boar burger, we ate pizza and ice cream, and i think i took about 3 naps on the sofa on accident since i got up for the flight at 3:30. Today we walked down to central park and inadvertently into a Puerto Rican parade, i saw a turtle on a leash, a guy playing a piano with a chicken hat on, ate an shrimp cheese tomato and bacon omelet with a side of bacon, and got all my stuff unpacked into the closet. Solid day for sure. Tomorrow i start bright an early at Columbia, leaving the apartment at 4:20 and trying to get across the island to 212th street from 96th street before 5 am.
I'm excited to take on this city i've heard so much about. I'm ready to learn more at such a great university, have the possibility to work at a few other gyms and get more insight, and have a new experience to add to my life. It's going to be interesting to see how things go, but as far as training for this meet and what happens, i'll do my best to keep my friends and family up to date.
Stay strong,
Will
