Two days into the last week of the first month of 10x10. Squats were not pleasant. Back started tightening up about set 6 but i grinded out the last set of 4. RDLs were that much worse because of my angry spine, but they were solid none the less. Since i now have access to a reverse hyper machine made by Westside Barbell, imma use that beast. It essentially allows you to load your posterior chain (calves, hammies, glutes, etc) without loading yourself axially, meaning your not putting a weight on yourself and supporting it with your spine / pelvic / hip region. This means you can get some more work in safer after you've beat the everliving crap out of yourself doing 100 back squats. Magical. I tried out some of the neck training stuff im learning too. Its incredible how many ways this guy has come up with to train the neck to make it strong. I don't exactly remember who said it, but i read a quote a while back and i think it was some strongman or weightlifter who said it. Apparently someone was giving him crap for working out calves or doing curls or something, and the guy said that if you really want to be strong, why wouldn't you make every muscle in your body strong? Makes sense.

Pressess today got pretty rough around set 7, but nothing unmanagable. I like the idea of splitting the angle between vertical strict press and horizontal bench press. Just working the shoulders at that incline, meeting them in the middle. And since i have access to dumbbells now i figure i should use them to change it up from just a straight bar. Skullcrushers and extensions are going to be staples for the time being i think. I bench with a closer grip than most because i have a wonky elbow whenever i get the bar off my chest and the tighter grip tends to stop be from protracting my scapulas and keeping my upper back shelf tight, but this means its more of a tricep movement from about 2 inches off my chest. Since this cycle is all about endurance / hypertrophy, im hammering the shit out of my triceps so hopefully when i get some more weight on the bar i can really bump up past that 300# range. I lifted at about 9 then went to velocity a little later and rowed. Stupid rowing.

So i grossly underestimated how batshit crazy people get on the weekends here in NYC. Its awesome. After the shenanigans at the beer garden and then the lazy day at central park, Brenticus and i went to this epic Mexican brunch place with unlimited food and booze for 2 hours. Without exaggeration, we literally ate everything on the menu except for like 4 items. We decided it would be best to walk our chubby butts from 68th to 96th to walk that situation off, only to be followed by an epic food coma.

Columbia is trucking along quite well. We've been fortunate enough to go through the programming process for the month of July with the head coach, and God Bless America this guy is precise and exacting. Since they only have 2 hours to do everything because of NCAA rules, every single second needs to be accounted for, and that's not an exaggeration. There are literally like 9 different major training variables that need to be balanced to create a solid program, and after they've been listed, prioritized, and graphed by intensity and volume, each needs to be analyzed further and broken down. I think i've consumed 100 cups of Columbia's coffee in 2 weeks, and at least 40 cups have been during the programming process. It's mentally draining, but its absolutely incredible to watch how he does it. My mind exploded like 4 times already across the 5 hours we've spent doing it, and we're not even done.

Velocity is going swimmingly as well. Trained 3 different sessions yesterday, so making dem dollaz. Its cool watching how Columbia trains and using things i've learned at Traction, LSU, RSCF, and now Columbia with athletes and clients at Velocity. Just trying to be smart and stuffz.

Me and Brent had a pretty deep conversation at brunch the other day. I think of Brent as a more jacked older brother. He's great to talk to about serious stuff because he's been there and has great perspective, but we can be complete ass-hats together if we want and that's awesome too. Basically it comes down to what's next in my life. I'm always trying to plan and see the long term instead of enjoying whats happening right now, and he told me that, which i needed to hear. But the conversation basically lead to the conclusion that i need to use this experience to decide if i want to do Strength and Conditioning in a collegiate setting, or in a private crossfit / weightlifting type setting. The answer to that question will basically determine if i want to go for a GA spot and get a masters, or coach weightlifting or crossfit on some level. I have stuff to think about, and that's ok, but one comforting thing we talked about is at the end of the day, we fucking love lifting weights, and we love helping people get strong. Even today, he said "ok, off to work" and i responded "we don't work." The statement is true. We don't work. We have fun, we make friends, we lift heavy shit and push our bodies, we try to make people better and stronger versions of themselves, and we love it. Wherever i end up, as long as im lifting and coaching everything is gonna fall into place.

NOW GO GET JACKED PEOPLE.
