Solid week of training. I was pretty sluggish this week still but i tried to hurry up and start warming up before my brain decided i was tired. Just jump right into the fire i suppose, best way to get through. Wednesday i felt kinda slow, but Wednesday is really just accessory speed work and rear delt work, so thats ok. Thursday i reallllyyyyy didnt want to train for some reason. 10x10 is a complete bitch and it grinds you down. I'm kind of tired lifting these light weights. I know the purpose and the reason behind it, understand where i'm at and how this fits into the big picture, but you obviously get antsy after you've been doing something for an extended period of time. But, next week is a de-load, and then one more month of high volume, then i'm onto a new cycle.
I talked with Matt about this and he reigned me in like he always does. He basically reminded me how much work i'm putting in now and laying the foundation for that big total i want come December, and how everything i'm doing has a purpose. I can't even put into words what Matt has done for me as a coach and as a lifter. He single handedly taught me how to train, which in this day and age of misinformation and ignorance might be the greatest thing you could ever do for someone. He answered my stupid questions, reassured me when i needed it, put me in my place when i was being dumb, and has just been more than i could ever ask for in a friend and a mentor. He always shrugs it off and says "i'm just a big guy who likes to lift weights" but even if he doesn't want to admit it, he's been one of my biggest influences in training and coaching, and i cant begin to say how appreciative i am for it.
NYC is still going really well. Columbia has one more week left of 5:30 am sessions (praise sweet baby Jesus) then the full team is going to be there from July onward and there will be 2 afternoon sessions. Velocity is going well too. I really like all of the guys there, especially the head guy Coach Dave. He's been nothing but nice to me and supportive of my aspirations in the city. He's been in the industry for over 20 years and is full of experience which makes him an incredible asset to know. He never hesitates to help me or give me advice when i need it. Everyone always told me what a cold place NYC was and how the people are so distant and inconsiderate, but i'm extremely fortunate to be put into this position surrounded by good people who seem sincerely concerned for my well-being and want me to succeed. It seems like the complete opposite of what everyone told me it would be. I'm not sure what will happen when the internship is through at Columbia, but for the first time in a very long time, i'm hungry again. I'm not sure what specific direction my life will go in, but i feel alive, aggressive, and determined to not let anyone or anything stand in my way of my success and happiness.
Look at that beast. That stone is like 405# plus. My coach is stronger than your coach.
